Thanks to recent technological advances such as the advent of pervasive computing, an increasing number of "intelligent" home appliances are being developed. The design of such advanced domestic technology is what nowadays is referred to as Domotics.

The claim of those who realize these intelligent appliances is that in the near future many homes will be equipped with high-tech components which will generate complex user services capable of optimizing and automating a wide variety of tasks.

The high potential shown by domotic technology has motivated us to investigate the issues related to integrating intelligent domestic components, particularly for the care of the physically or mentally impared. Our aim is to explore how AI Planning and Scheduling techniques can create intelligent cooperation strategies among these service-generating components.

The idea of implementing goal oriented cooperation schemas is addressed by RoboCare, a joint national project in which the PST actively participates as the coordinating entity. The role of the PST's research in the context of RoboCare is to develop an active supervision framework which incorporates AI reasoning technology capable of enforcing the synergetic action of domotic and robotic components for the care of the elderly.
